Kitchener, ON – At their International Credit Union Day celebrations, Kindred Credit Union announced a $16,000 contribution to eight community organizations working to address hunger.
Kindred’s community engagement and philanthropy builds relationships and impacts community organizations through sponsorships, Kindred Charitable Fund grants, volunteering, and gifts-in-kind. Kindred recognizes that food security is a challenge facing many in the communities they serve.
Earlier this year, Hunger was identified as one of their social impact themes and, in collaboration with their community partners, Kindred hopes to improve access and availability to nutritious, safe, and culturally appropriate food at the local level.
“Since our earliest days, Kindred has fostered mutual aid and economic justice by providing more ways for members to support each other and our communities,” said Jason Daly, Kindred’s new CEO. “As our communities benefit from this support and our team members and Kindred members are inspired to live out their values alongside us, together, we make peace in practical ways – doing what we can to make sure everyone has enough food to eat, a safe place to call home, and that there is mutual wellbeing.”
This November, as part of their 60th Anniversary, and as an act of peace, Kindred will take part in their 2nd Annual Fall Food Drive. Each of their eight branches have partnered with a local community organization that is working to address food security.
For the entire month, all Kindred locations will be collecting cash donations and non-perishable food items in branch to be donated to their selected organization. Kindred has committed to matching donations, up to $3,000 per location in recognition of the immense challenge facing their communities, in addition to a $16,000 International Credit Union Day donation.
In 2023, Kindred members and team members came together to donate a total of $63,000 and 270lbs of non-perishables to local organizations in the communities they serve! Kindred’s goal is to match and surpass this in 2024.
