Kindred employees, members, and communities came together in the month of November to donate a total of $67,000 to community organizations working to address food security!
“Since our earliest days, Kindred has fostered mutual aid by providing ways for members to support each other and our communities” says Jason Daly, Kindred CEO. “We know there continues to be an increasing need for food assistance, and understand how important food security is to our collective wellbeing and peace. Together, we make peace in practical ways – including doing what we can to make sure everyone has enough food to eat.”
Food banks are seeing sustained increases, year over year, in demand for their programs and resources at record breaking levels. According to the Food Bank of Waterloo Region, 1 in 8 households in Waterloo region need food assistance. By comparison, in 2023, that number was 1 in 10 households.
Throughout November, our eight Kindred branches collected more than 170 donations totaling $19,250 and non-perishable food items.
Kindred had committed to matching with a contribution of $24,000 plus a special $16,000 representing $60 on behalf of each Kindred team member in celebration of our 60th Anniversary. In recognition of the pressing need, Kindred then added extra contributions, bringing our collective total to $67,000! The donations raised by branches and all matching funds will be distributed to local food banks in the communities we’re so fortunate to serve.
With Hunger identified as one of our Social Impact themes, we offer our deepest thanks to everyone who participated, donated, and spread the word! You help us live out our purpose each day.
